There is a user-interface design rule which states (more-or-less):
The consequences of a user action should be proportional
to the effort the user has made to cause the actions.
In the context of ^A, this means:
- It would be better to allow the user to drag an area over
all objects (if that is meaningful to the app).
- If actions can be UNDOne, the consequences are immaterial,
and ^A may select all.
